Break free from Oracle constraints with effortless,
smart PostgreSQL migration
Oracle databases are at the core of many organisations, powering critical operations and business processes. However, rising licensing and maintenance costs, vendor lock-ins, and restrictive policies are making them less viable for the future. Businesses need a more agile, cost-effective alternative that can replace Oracle—PostgreSQL.
Despite the obvious benefits, many leaders hesitate. Databases contain valuable business logic and data (such as financial, customer, production and operational data) that are invaluable, making change feel risky. But with the right approach, modernising from Oracle to PostgreSQL improves flexibility, scalability and security, while significantly reducing costs and eliminating restrictions as with Oracle.
That’s where Splendid Data comes in. Our advanced migration solutions—Migration Scoping and Cortex—eliminate the guesswork and complexity, providing a smooth, efficient, and controlled migration path to PostgreSQL.
Migration Scoping: Know before you move
Migration Scoping is advanced software designed to intelligently analyse your Oracle databases and assess their suitability for migration to PostgreSQL. It provides a clear insights of key elements that need attention during the transition from Oracle to PostgreSQL and estimates the time required for necessary manual adjustments (remediation).
By offering valuable insights into the technical migratability of your databases, Migration Scoping supports strategic and tactical project planning, helping organisations make informed decisions and streamline their overall migration approach to PostgreSQL with confidence.
Cortex: The smart way to migrate
Once the scope is defined, Cortex, our automated migration solution, does the heavy lifting. Designed to translate Oracle DDL and DML into native PostgreSQL, not the actual data itself. Translation of the Oracle database DDL and DML (PL/SQL to PL/pgSQL) is done semantically in relation to their context (including dependencies throughout the DDL and DML), Cortex ensures a fast, precise, and reliable transformation.
Why choose Cortex?
- Highly automated: Reduces manual effort and accelerates migration.
- Cost: Eliminates Oracle licensing costs and vendor lock-in.
- Efficiency: Higher productivity with far less resources, reducing costs and accelerating migration workloads..
- Quality: The automated migration process of Cortex guarantees high-quality migration and reduces the risk of errors that may occur in manual migrations.
- Speed: The migration process with Cortex is the fastest approach to get to the desired result with a minimal manual intervention.

Oracle DDL and DML
DDL is used to define the structure of a database. DML is used to manipulate the data within the database. DDL is used to create and modify database objects like tables, indexes, views, and constraints. DML is used to perform operations on the data within those database objects.
Although Oracle and PostgreSQL are similar in many ways, migrating Oracle DDL and DML to PostgreSQL is not a straightforward task. In PL/SQL (Oracle DML), so-called PACKAGEs and PACKAGE BODYs can be defined. PostgreSQL does not know this. This means that other constructions have to be created for this in PL/pgSQL (PostgreSQL DML) , where all dependencies with other DDL data objects and DML code objects have to be made. All this without the loss of your valuable functionality (business logic).
This is just one of many examples where it becomes clear that technically migrating from Oracle to PostgreSQL can only succeed if specialized software is used that does the technical “translation” from Oracle to PostgreSQL in a highly automated way.
“Eviden will definitely advise customers who wish to migrate Oracle databases to PostgreSQL as part of their database modernisation, to choose Cortex. It’s clear they will save on migration costs, the migration project duration and enjoy the added benefits of user friendliness and better control. Besides Cortex we are pleased with the Migration Scoping. It gives a lot of insights to enable a reliable Oracle to PostgreSQL migration plan. Eviden has selected Cortex as the preferred tool for Oracle to PostgreSQL migrations.”
