How a “too good to be true” open source database option can be good and true

Initially, when the PostgresPURE solution was released and we described the approach to our current customers, we sometimes got a skeptical look. ‘Can this be true?’ was a common question. This can’t be true, was what they thought when we explained how they could save up to eighty percent of their yearly Oracle Database costs with Splendid Data’s PostgresPURE. When we describe how database migration to PostgreSQL is a valid and proven option, without vendor lock-in, one of our customers said, ‘It sounds too good to be true.’

“The PostgresPURE Promise”

The fact is, numerous failed IT projects based on the promises of software vendors, made IT and management skeptical. Many Postgres-based vendors have promised lower costs, a better experience, a smooth transition, but all too often, organizations have found themselves locked-in and ended up with higher costs and business disappointment.

We thought there must be a better option for IT teams and organizations to leverage the power of PostgreSQL. With this in mind we embarked on an ambitious journey to create an innovative and disruptive paradigm. From that ambition, we designed and engineered PostgresPURE, a truly open source enterprise database environment.

Combined with the underlying hardware of IBM PowerLinux, a complete and secure solution is now available for organizations of all sizes to take advantage of the movement to Postgres and unprecedented savings. The PostgresPURE open source solution has proven itself in both large and small organizational applications. With top level security, the database is suitable for cloud and on-premise architectures without vendor lock-in. This is the PostgresPURE Promise.

No charge for licence fees

The PostgresPURE and IBM PowerLinux solution provides a comprehensive and extremely powerful environment. Benefits are realized on multiple levels. The PostgresPURE database has a comparable underlying structure and development language to that of Oracle. With this in place, the IT department of our customers have not required the typical extensive retraining of their staff, which makes the adoption of PostgresPURE a smooth and cost effective process.

But it does not stop there: Splendid Data does not charge customers for licence fees. This, along with our value-added services has enabled our customers to realize an eighty percent reduction of overall database costs. The benefits and the comparison to the Oracle database costs are shown in the table below.

PostgresPURE is highly secure, flexible and scalable so performance and quality are never an issue. When build on top of the high-level hardware of IBM PowerLinux, Splendid Data delivers a leading edge database architecture with the lowest costs in the market. This is the PostgresPURE Promise.
